Make It Safe. Fix What Can Be Fixed Now.

Gas fitting needs to suit both the appliance and the existing gas installation around it.

Our team starts with what is being installed, replaced or repaired, then checks the supply, connection and surrounding setup before completing the work.

If the existing installation is suitable, the job can stay straightforward. If the new appliance, gas point or fault needs changes to the existing system, we can handle those alterations and complete the required testing and compliance.

Why Gas Fitting Is Harder Than the Final Connection

The appliance connection is usually the part of the job you can see.

What matters just as much is the gas installation serving it.

The fitter needs to consider the existing pipework, available gas supply, appliance requirements, isolation, ventilation and how the new work fits into the rest of the installation.

A replacement appliance is not automatically a straight swap.

The new unit may have different connection requirements or place a different demand on the existing gas supply. Adding another appliance can also change what the gas line needs to support.

That is why the existing installation needs to be considered before the new appliance is simply connected and switched on.

Gas fitting work must comply with the relevant requirements of AS/NZS 5601 and be completed by a licensed gas fitter.

The goal is not simply to make the appliance operate. It is to leave the gas work tested, compliant and suitable for the installation around it.

Gas Appliance Installations and Replacements

A lot of gas fitting work happens as part of another change at the property.

A kitchen renovation may involve a new cooktop or oven.

A failed hot water system may be replaced with another gas unit.

An outdoor area may need a new gas point for a heater or kitchen.

An older gas appliance may be removed and replaced with equipment that has different installation requirements.

These jobs work better when the gas connection is considered early rather than after cabinetry, benchtops or finished surfaces are already in place.

The awkward time to discover that the existing gas point is in the wrong position or the supply needs alteration is after the new appliance has been fitted into the finished space.

Contemporary Plumbing can assess the existing setup, work out what the new appliance requires and complete the gas alterations needed around the installation.

Gas Line Extensions and Alterations

Adding a new gas point is more than running a pipe to the new location.

The existing installation still needs to be suitable for the additional demand.

That can matter when adding a heater, outdoor appliance or another gas appliance to a property that already has several gas loads connected.

The route also needs to make sense for the building.

Access, finished surfaces, pipe location and the position of the new appliance can all affect how the work is completed.

Where an existing gas line needs to be altered, we assess the installation around the change rather than assuming the new section can simply be added to what is already there.

If the existing setup is suitable, the work can stay straightforward.

Where changes are required, they can be dealt with before the new appliance or gas point is signed off.

Gas Leaks and Fault Finding

A suspected gas leak needs to be investigated properly.

The fault may be at an appliance connection, isolation point, regulator, fitting or somewhere else in the gas line.

If you suspect a gas leak, avoid flames and other ignition sources, move away from the affected area and contact Contemporary Plumbing so the installation can be assessed.

The starting point for the plumber is to make the area safe and identify where the fault sits.

Once the source has been found, the repair should follow the fault rather than the assumption.

Sometimes that means replacing a fitting or repairing a connection.

In other cases, a section of the existing gas line or another part of the installation may need attention.

The important part is locating the actual problem before deciding what needs to be repaired.

LPG Gas Fitting

Not every gas property is connected to natural gas.

Contemporary Plumbing also works with LPG installations, including appliance connections, regulators and bottle changeover arrangements where LPG is used at the property.

LPG work still needs the same licensed approach to installation, testing and compliance.

The equipment and installation requirements can differ from natural gas, so the existing system needs to be identified correctly before alterations or appliance work begins.

Where a property is changing equipment or adding another LPG appliance, we can assess the existing setup and complete the gas work required around the change.

How We Work on Gas Fitting Jobs

We start with what the customer is trying to install, replace or repair.

From there, we look at the gas installation already serving the property.

For an appliance installation, that means checking the connection, supply and requirements of the equipment before completing the work.

For a line extension, we consider the proposed route and whether the existing installation is suitable for the additional load.

For a gas fault, we work from the symptoms and testing rather than replacing parts based on assumption.

Once the work is complete, the gas installation is tested before being returned to service and the required compliance documentation is provided.

Detailed licensing, insurance and certification information sits on Contemporary Plumbing’s Accreditations and Compliance page rather than loading the service page with licence numbers.

The job should finish with the gas work operating as intended, tested properly and documented clearly.
