CCTV Drain Camera Inspections

See what is happening inside the drainage before deciding what needs to be repaired.

Contemporary Plumbing uses CCTV drain cameras to investigate recurring blockages, suspected pipe damage and drainage problems that cannot be properly understood from ground level.

Take the Guesswork Out of a Drainage Problem

If the same drain keeps blocking, clearing it again only tells you that the line was blocked.

It does not necessarily tell you why.

A CCTV drain inspection gives our team a view inside accessible sewer and stormwater pipework, helping identify where the problem sits and what may be causing it.

That gives us something real to work from before deciding whether the job ends with clearing the line or needs to go further.

See the Problem Before Choosing the Repair

Digging should not be the first way you find out what is happening underground.

Where access allows, a drain camera can help us inspect the condition of the line before recommending a larger repair.

Sometimes the inspection confirms there is a damaged section that needs attention.

Sometimes it shows the pipe itself is in reasonable condition and the problem can stay much simpler. Both are useful answers.

Diagnose Before Repairing

Use the camera when it will actually help make a better decision about what happens next.

Drainage Capability Beyond the Camera

If the inspection identifies a problem, our team can also assist with drain clearing, jet rodding, pipe repairs and relining where appropriate.

When a CCTV Drain Inspection Makes Sense

A camera is not something every blocked drain automatically needs.

It becomes useful when there is a reason to believe the problem goes beyond a one-off obstruction.

Common situations include:

Recurring Blockages

The same drain has been cleared before and continues causing trouble.

Multiple Fixtures Affected

Several drains are slowing, backing up or behaving differently at the same time.

Suspected Pipe Damage

There are signs that the condition of the drainage itself may be contributing to the problem.

Before a Drainage Repair

The plumber needs a clearer picture of where the damaged section sits before working through repair options.

Sewer or Stormwater Problems

Accessible underground drainage needs to be inspected beyond what can be seen from the surface.

The camera earns its place when it gives us information we could not get otherwise.

What We Are Looking for Inside the Drain

Once the camera is inside an accessible section of drainage, the useful part is not simply having footage.

It is knowing what that footage is showing.

Depending on the condition of the line, a CCTV inspection can help identify visible issues such as:

  • Tree roots entering the drainage
  • Cracked or damaged pipework
  • Displaced or damaged joints
  • Physical obstructions
  • Sections where material is repeatedly catching
  • Changes in the condition of the pipe
  • Other visible causes of recurring drainage problems

A small defect in one section does not automatically mean the whole drainage line needs replacing.

Likewise, repeatedly clearing the same blockage without looking at an obvious recurring fault can leave the customer dealing with the same problem again.

The inspection gives us something concrete to base the next decision on.

When the Same Blockage Keeps Coming Back, It Becomes a Different Job

A drain that blocks once may simply have had something in it that should not have been there.

A drain that keeps blocking in the same area deserves a different conversation.

The line gets cleared.

Everything works again.

Then weeks or months later, the same symptoms return.

That does not prove the pipe is damaged, but it gives us a reason to look.

A CCTV inspection can help establish whether there is something inside the line contributing to the repeated blockage or whether the drainage itself appears sound.

Either way, the next decision is being made with more information than the last one.

Clearing the Drain May Come First

A drain camera needs visibility to be useful.

If the line is heavily blocked or full of material, there may be very little worthwhile footage to see until the obstruction has been cleared.

That is why CCTV inspection and blocked drain clearing often work together.

Where required, Contemporary Plumbing can clear the line first and inspect the accessible drainage once there is a useful view inside it.

Our drainage capability includes:

  • Blocked drain clearing
  • CCTV drain inspection
  • Jet rodding
  • Pipe repairs
  • Pipe relining where suitable

The sequence depends on what the drain is doing when we arrive.

Finding Damage Does Not Automatically Mean Digging Everything Up

Seeing damage inside a drain is the start of the repair decision, not the end of it.

What happens next depends on what the camera shows, where the problem is located, how much of the line is affected and the condition of the surrounding drainage.

In some situations, a localised repair may make sense.

In others, replacement of a damaged section may be required.

Where the existing pipe and type of damage are suitable, pipe relining may also provide an option to repair the line internally without replacing the entire section through excavation.

The camera helps narrow that decision down.

Rather than choosing a repair method first and trying to make the pipe fit it, we can look at the condition of the drainage and work from there.

CCTV Inspections for Sewer & Stormwater Drainage

CCTV inspection can be used across accessible sewer and stormwater drainage where there is a genuine reason to investigate what is happening inside the line.

That may be part of diagnosing a recurring sewer blockage, investigating an underground drainage fault or understanding the condition of a section before repair work begins.

Access points, bends and the condition of the line can limit how far a camera can inspect.

We would rather be clear about what can actually be seen than pretend a camera automatically gives a complete picture of every pipe underneath the property.

Drainage Diagnosis With the Capability to Keep Going

Finding the problem is useful because it gives you a clearer next step.

Contemporary Plumbing’s residential team can take the job from blocked drain clearing through to CCTV inspection, jet rodding, pipe repair and relining where required.

That means we can start by identifying what is happening inside the drainage and stay involved if the inspection shows that further work genuinely makes sense.

Our residential team provides plumbing, gas and hot water across Canberra and Queanbeyan.

If the same drain keeps blocking or you have been told there may be damage inside the line, speak with our team about whether a CCTV drain inspection is the right next step.
