Scope: Contemporary Plumbing’s Canberra team delivered extensive hydraulic services for the construction of DNATA’s new inflight catering facility.
Project Overview
DNATA is Australia’s largest inflight caterer, known for delivering fresh, award‑winning meals and exceptional inflight service. With more than 3,000 employees nationally, DNATA supports major airlines across all cabin classes and provides a wide range of value‑added services, including inflight retail technology, training, buy‑on‑board program management, and airport lounge operations. The project required a high level of technical capability to support DNATA’s strict operational, safety, and food-production requirements. Contemporary Plumbing was responsible for installing the core plumbing and civil systems that underpin the facility’s daily functionality and long-term performance.
Constructing an industrial-scale commercial kitchen comes with unique logistical and technical challenges. Key considerations included:
- Integrating multiple service types
- Ensuring compliance with food‑production standards
- Coordinating with specialised kitchen equipment suppliers
- Managing high-volume waste and water flows
Project Outcome
The project successfully installed a wide range of civil and internal hydraulic services, such as:
- Civil stormwater system installation
- Fire hydrant systems
- Trade-waste and grease arrestor systems
- Gas reticulation mains
- Hot and cold water reticulation
These systems were coordinated with other construction and mechanical trades to achieve seamless integration within a highly service‑intensive building.
Through disciplined planning and close collaboration with the project team, Contemporary Plumbing delivered all systems to the standard required for a high‑performance, high-output culinary facility.
The completed DNATA facility now operates as a major hub for inflight catering in Canberra, supported by the critical hydraulic systems installed by Contemporary Plumbing. The infrastructure enables efficient food production, safe waste management, reliable fire protection, and high-functioning staff amenities. The project strengthens DNATA’s capacity to deliver fresh, high‑quality meals while supporting future expansion.
